In every acre of grasslands there can be up to 2 million spiders. Spiders do a service in nature by helping to control other insect populations. Worldwide there are more that 100,000 different types of spiders. This is a very disturbing thought for those of us who dont feel comfortable in the company of Arachnids. Of all the many types of spiders in the United States, only two are considered venomous to humans, and they seldom bother humans unless they are provoked. They are the Black Widow and the Brown Recluse. The Poison Control Center receives many calls about spider bites year-round. Most victims usually ask, "How do I tell if the spider is poisonous?" and, "What kinds of symptoms can I expect?"

I prefer not to use insecticides for controlling many
types of spiders. The controls that I prefer are
Poly Duster
,
Glue Traps
, Vacuuming, or all 3. Knocking down the spider's
web causes them to rebuild and interups their food supply, if that is done consistently for
a short period of time, the spiders will starve to death. Glue traps work well because both
the spiders and other insects will become trapped. This serves the obvious benefit that the
spiders are eliminated, but also other insects that the spiders depend on for food are
eliminated as well, and the spiders will not have any reason to stick around. We also carry
spider repellents. JB
Controlling Spiders
Control Spiders Using Insecticides
If I were going to spray an insecticide to control spiders, I'd choose one of the following professional level products such as:
* Temprid
* Suspend
* Cy-Kick
* Demand
Products are professional level concentrates, mixed 1-oz per gallon of water, and sprayed with a pump up garden sprayer.
Control Using Non-Poisonous Methods
If you do not want to rely on insecticides to control spiders, excellent results can be had using a combination of Non Poisonous, Mechanical Controls. The following products and methods are what I personally use to control spiders inside and on the outside of my home:
* Catchmaster Spider Trap
* Spring Star Spider & Silverfish Trap
* Spider & Insect Catcher - Poly Duster
*Regular Household Vacuum Sweeper
Vacuum
First, vacuum the webs and cracks and crevices where spiders hang out that can be reached with the vacuum.
Spider & Insect Catcher
Next, use the Spider & Insect Catcher with the extension handle to knock down Spider Webs that cannot be reached with the vacuum sweeper. Pay extra attention to corners, especially at the floor and ceiling. The Spider & Insect Catcher works especially well in basements and garages to remove spider webs between floor joists. Further control is easy using the brush with the extension handle on the outside of the house along the eaves and soffits.
Traps
After all the webs have been removed, set the Glue Traps on the floor in corners of rooms and along the walls. Not only will the traps control spiders, many other insects such as crickets and roaches can be controlled.
Non Poisonous, Mechanical control using these methods really is effective. If you periodically knock down the webs, eventually, sooner than you think, the spiders will starve before they can rebuild their webs.
