Mound Insertion
Here is the method that is least damaging to your lawn and easiest to dig.
Locate mound and remove plug.
Remove enough dirt from lateral tunnel to make a clean insertion of set trap.
A small digging trowel works well.
Install ground stake and attach trap. Set and insert trap.
Cover hole and (IMPORTANT: Leave a small opening into the tunnel so light may be seen from inside. This will serve as bait for the gopher to come and repair the damage to the mound.


Main Tunnel insertion
This method requires a little more work, but has higher probability of a quick catch.
Locate main tunnel. It is usually found between 2’ and 3’ from the mound at the end of the lateral tunnel.
A heavy pointed probe can be used to avoid digging up your lawn.
Dig a hole into main tunnel. Hole must be large enough to allow placement of set traps. A round point shovel works well.
Install ground stake and attach traps. Set and insert two traps.
Fill hole. Here, baiting with light is less crucial because the gopher as a normal course of action uses the main tunnel.
